Two great qualities of slash fandom: community, and support.
They built the Escapade Scholarship.
For many years, Escapade has maintained a scholarship program funded by generous attendee contributions and the con committee. It has assisted dozens of attendees who might not otherwise have been able to attend Escapade, from old-time fans who faced changes in their financial status to first-time fans who knew fandom only through the web.
Our scholarship fund is dedicated to two wonderful women who have been such a part of Escapade in the past, that they will remain part of Escapade through the Scoholarship program. The Sandy Herrold Memorial Escapade Scholarship will continue to support a vidder (or vidders) who has never attended Escapade. We hope to subsidize at least two attendees this year, and with your donations we will. The Stacy Doyle Memorial Escapade Scholarship will support a second attendee, and/or subsidize other potential scholarship recipients.
Sandy Herrold Memorial Scholarship
Introducing the Sandy Herrold Memorial Escapade Scholarship.
The scholarship program represents two of many great ideals of slash fandom: community and support. Sandy Herrold embodied these ideals as well. This year, to acknowledge and remember a slash hostess, an Escapade ambassador, and a dear friend, we will endow the Sandy Herrold Memorial Escapade Scholarship.
Sandy loved vidding. She loved watching vids, making vids, critiquing vids, and the entire art of the process. She loved the vid community. To honor her contributions to that community, the Herrold Scholarship will assist a vidder.
The first recipient of the Herrold Memorial Escapade Scholarship was Greensilver.
Remembering Sandy is a wonderful, and sometimes painful, thing for those of us who knew her well. But mostly, it’s wonderful, and the stories we have shared and heard about Sandy warm our hearts. This page is open to comments, and attendees are invited to share any thoughts, stories, or special memories here that they wish. We hope scholarship recipients will have a chance to read them and get to know, even better, the woman for whom this scholarship is named.
Stacy Doyle Memorial Scholarship
Stacy Doyle is another member who left us way too soon. She was friendly, creative, and generous to a fault. In her name, we bring one (or more) person to Escapade who would not otherwise be able to attend the convention. This scholarship is flexible, based on the needs of the recipient. It generally covers convention membership and hotel (in a shared room); it may also include travel costs and/or spending money for incidentals during the convention.
Escapade Evelyn Scholarship
A new scholarship for 2017 has been endowed through the efforts of one of our mistresses of technology, Evelyn D.
The scholarship is need based and applications are open to anyone identifying as non-binary or transgender.
To apply or nominate a fellow fan email EscapadeEvelynScholarship@gmail.com with name and preferred pronouns of the potential recipient, the best way to contact them, an introduction, and one thing Escapade or slash fandom in general could do to improve visibility or awareness of gender non-conforming issues. The ideas will be shared with the fan community so be sure to let us know if you do not wish to be credited.
Please limit applications and nominations to those who would otherwise be unable to attend for financial reasons.
TWO THINGS NEED TO HAPPEN:
- People nominate potential scholarship recipients. They can be authors; they can be vidders; they can be ecstatic consumers who have never put pen to paper or keyboard to video. Scholarship recipients would be unable to attend because the cost of a weekend-long con doesn’t work for them, and they must be willing to volunteer 5 hours on site. We also love it (and so do they) when they volunteer to co-moderate panels. You can nominate anyone by filling in the form below.
- People contribute to the scholarship fund, which you can do by clicking the "donate" button, below. 100% of your donations go directly to recipient expenses.
Contributions to the Scholarship Fund.
If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund (100% of your contribution will go directly to recipient expenses) you can contribute by Paypal or by check. Any amount helps; there is no donation amount that is too small to help the fund, and of course there is no amount that is too big.
