What is EscapadeCon?

Our In-Person Convention

EscapadeCon is a weekend-long convention attended and run by fans of all fandoms and flavors. You suggest the panels and content; we make it happen. We have a vidshow, dance party, meet ups, panels, and more! We’re here to hang out, talk, pimp our favorite sources/parings/groups, talk, watch stuff together, talk, share fanworks, talk, watch vids, talk… You get the picture. :)

We have scholarships available to people who want to attend the con but otherwise would not be able to afford to do so. Please check out our scholarship information.

Escapade 35 (January 31 through February 2, 2025) will take place in person at Embassy Suites LAX North. Programming will run from 11 AM Friday through 3 PM Sunday, followed by the Dead Dog Party.

What is Escapade Online?

Our Virtual Convention

Escapade Online is where we bring the fun of Escapade to you! All the same great Escapade content, panels, vids, recs, meet ups, friends, fandom talk, etc, delivered right to you online.

Registering for Escapade Online gives you access to panels on Zoom, to our vid show on Vimeo, to our con Discord, and to our main Discord where social events and hang outs happen all year round. Scholarships are available for both our in-person and virtual conventions.

Just like in-person Escapade, panels are suggested by attendees and voted on by attendees. The panels with the top votes make it on the schedule. If you don’t want to moderate a suggested panel, we will find a panel mod to run it for you.

Escapade has a Welcommittee!

What’s a welcommittee, you ask? It’s the fannish version of a Welcome Wagon, helping you feel at home in a new place, answering questions, holding your hand, pretty much anything you need to make your Escapade experience as good as it can be.

ride_4ever is our Welcommittee contact. You can ask her questions before the convention or if you spot her walking around the convention. Of course, everyone who is volunteering in the con suite will also be happy to help!

For many years, Escapade has maintained a scholarship program funded by generous attendee contributions and the con committee. It has assisted dozens of attendees who might not otherwise have been able to attend Escapade, from old-time fans who faced changes in their financial status to first-time fans who knew fandom only through the web

Escapade will always be one of my spiritual homes in fandom… The roots of the OTW and AO3 are there, in the community that wide-open welcomed any fan to propose a panel, to make a vid…that made it seem not only doable but sensible to just dive in and make the kind of spaces that we wanted in the world.

My first experience of Escapade was welcoming, fun, and incredibly exciting! I feel like I learned so much about other people’s fandoms, and I felt a new sense of community that I never had before. More than just being in a community of people in my own fandom, I was in a community of people who are just fans, and it was fascinating to feel connected to so many people in that way. It felt so easy to participate, and so natural for people to jump to volunteer to set up a panel or organize a screening in their room. It was a wonderful few days, and I hope to repeat it soon!

Escapade is an incredible experience of community and connection. It’s an affirmation and exaltation, being in spaces with other fans who contribute to and sustain fandoms in a multitude of different ways. I’ll definitely be back!

I have attended almost every Escapade in person since the first one. Covid and personal health fights made it impossible to attend some years. Then, I attended my first online, virtual con in 2021. It was entertaining, and allowed me to talk to other fans who share my fandoms and interests. The con volunteers made it easy to navigate the computer site. I recommend the in-person con experience for more fan interaction, the art show, the live panels, and sharing the vid show as a group. But if you have never been able to attend, or can’t travel at this time, then becoming a member of this virtual con will let you experience part of the longest running fan convention: Escapade.
